Historical Notes

Fox Hill Filings II & II lie within Section 1 Township 2North Range 69West.

An Irrigation Map of Northern Colorado* dated 1915 shows Lillian Pennock as the owner of 377 acres of the land bounded by present day 9th Avenue, Pace Street, 5th Avenue extended, and County Line Road. Fox Hill Filings 2 & 3 are located on the northwest corner of this property. The Pennock surname was prominent in early local history and a biographical sketch in They Came to Stay: Longmont, Colorado, 1858-1920** indicates that the family had ownership from the 1860s until 1940. (Of interest… the same sketch states that Lillian Pennock’s mother-in-law, Ellen Coffin Pennock, was the sister of the Coffin brothers who owned Sandstone Ranch. Sandstone Ranch is now owned and operated as a park by the City of Longmont.)

The same map shows the property immediately to the south of the Pennock’s was owned by Helen Sucor (sic) (possibly Secor). This surname also appears in They Came to Stay, but with less detail. Fox Hill Filing 1, south of 5th Ave. is located on this parcel.

A 1940 Land Ownership Atlas* still shows Lillian Pennock as owner of the northern parcel, but lists FB & Electra Secor as owning the southern parcel.

An early 1960s Land Ownership Atlas* lists H. Beagle as owner of the northern parcel and Miller-Karsh, Inc. as owner of the southern.
